Babble On Banter

Its a new year, time for a new look. =

Aphorism of the day: from The Electric Oracle Speaks by Rolland E, Proulx

Conventional thinking is a dead end.

Affirmation of the day: Repeat several times a day and mean it.

Every day now, my life is better and better.

Foodie Corner:

No specific recipes today.

Exploring leftovers. Making use of leftovers so as not to waste food. You can invent new recipes
using leftovers. You can simply re-heat yesterdays left over or add to it, zap it with fresh herbs and more. Sometimes I love my leftovers more than the original meal I prepared.

You can economize using what you might throw out. You can stretch a left over by adding something fresh without spending money. Left over food is more like comfort food.

I will share my left over findings, recipes and what kinds of things lend themselves to making a left over meal something exciting, tasty and healthy. Ideas on what you might use to create something good for yourself or your family or friends.

May this New Year be a good year for all concerned.

Late Autumn

I look forward to reviewing the year in the next three weeks and giving my insights into the coming new year.

I realize that I have been a closet poet. I came about an old file filled with poems I have written that date back to the 80"s. Decided its time to come out and begin publishing some of the older works and newer ones that are in the making.  Anyhow, here it is a first publication of one of my poems titled: I Say Sunrise. Enjoy.

Through chiromancers'

deep ridged zig-zag lines

speak of future events

of pulsating zones

of magnetic storms

of deja vu platinum viola sounds

weaving silk tapestry emotions

filled with restless songs

hear birds call out

OPEN SESAME

thus the great Nile receives royal barge

I SAY SUNRISE

Aphorism:
Life is an incredible opportunity begging to be lived.

From The Electric Oracle Speaks
Rolland E. Proulx

Recipe:
Republishing this yummy wholesome from my book
Thou Shalt Not Salt. It is simple and easy to prepare.

Swiss Chard Soup

1 big bunch of fresh green Swiss chard
2 medium size tomatoes
4 cloves of garlic
1 tsp fennel seeds crushed
2 tbsps. olive oil
fresh ground black pepper (to taste)

Wash the chard then cut into approx. one inch strips. Mince the garlic and cube the tomatoes.
Bring approx. 5 cups of water to a boil in a soup pot (too much water tends to make for a watery taste) add chard, then tomatoes and finally garlic to the boiling water. Let boil for about 5 mins. top and then put on low heat and let simmer for about 45 minutes. Add the olive oil when ready and the pepper and seeds.

Serve in big soup bowls. A nice touch is the grate either Parmesan or Romano cheese over top. Baguette goes well with this hearty meal. Enjoy.

News, Views and Commentaries:

What is it with the word “SHAME”? It is being overused, misused and totally mindlessly abused.

Its one of those current popular expressions like “BULLYING” that is so trendy.

Shaming is being used when in reality it is nothing more than criticism of another person’s actions or wardrobe or it may even be an innocent observation or point of view being expressed that is then termed “shaming” and this with the connotation that it is condemning and judging another. The so—called people who accuse others of shaming another are often worse then the so-called shaming monsters.

The shaming thing is usually linked to popular social media as in an innocent soul posts a picture of themselves and then sends it out into the big wide world for ALL TO SEE. Then the innocent one gets all hurt and offended and humiliated when others posts comments about their attire or person in an unfavorable manner. Go figure.

Why set yourself up. Its only natural that some will like you and some wont. That is a simple fact of life.

Once you know that you are free to do what you want, what you feel is right for you.

Aphorism:
The only way to get THERE is to begin NOW

Recipe of the Season:
Cherry Hibiscus Tea Drink

A refreshing and healthy drink that is inexpensive to make.

To a medium tea pot add two bags of cherry tea and two bags of hibiscus tea
Add boiling water to tea pot...fill to the top and let cool. Once cooled add tea to
a glass pitcher. Add two tablespoons of white sugar or 1 1/2 tablespoon of white sugar.
Stir and refrigerate overnight.
Preferably serve tea in cocktail glass or anything that looks good. Add a few drops of
orange bitters and stir.
This drink is attractive, refreshing and healthy.

Remember to Remember:
Everything in life is about experience...it matters not what you do but whatever you do then do it well and in good spirit. You only get out of life what you put into it.
Enjoy a good summer. Fall is around the corner.

Babble On:

Enfin, Spring is here. A new beginning is at hand.

Springtime gives me the urge to clean house to get into the wee
corners of my home and rid the place of winter dirt.

By the way housecleaning is a great way to get rid of depression and feeling
sorry for yourself. There is something about getting down on your
knees, depending upon the severity of your depression or neurotic
state and washing the floor by hand and then waxing it also by hand.

This wonderful cleansing process not only cleans the floor but purge
the inner garbage looming beneath the surface of your being. Its a physical
action that works. Give it a try and you will be glad you did.

Recipe of the Month:

Quick Soup for one or two. (If for two double the ingredients)

Here is an easy, fast and yummy soup you can prep in about 15 mins.

1/2 cup of canned stewed tomatoes. Crushed or whole is fine.

1 cup of chicken broth (no sodium or low sodium)

1 cup of water

1 green onion

Pinch cayenne pepper

Fresh ground pepper

Tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley (dry is fine if you don’t have fresh)

Small bunch of vermicelli or capellini broken up into four part

Into medium pot ad water, chicken bouillon and stewed tomatoes and cayenne pepper. Mince the green onion fine and add to pot. Bring to a boil the simmer for about 5 to 8 minutes. Add pasta and let cook. When pasta is soft the soup is ready to eat.

Sprinkle fresh ground pepper when serving the soup. I like plain soda crackers with that. Voila, you have an economical soup that is healthy and tasty. You can make this for more people of course…just multiply the recipe.

The thing about quick soups like this is that you don’t have the same soup for days when you live on your own. On the other hand, you can also make a big batch that will last for a few days or even freeze some if it suits your needs.

Aphorism

Fear more often than not breeds bad actions.

Remember To Remember:
Remember a positive approach to everyday mundane
life is about being constructive and creative.

Its not wishful thinking but disciplined thought action. Everything firstly is
derived from a thought. Therefore, it is wise to watch what you
think. Is it negative or positive, constructive or destructive?
Are you in charge of your thoughts? Are you harming yourself and others
with your thinking patterns? Are you sabotaging yourself?
Enough for now...to be continued?

Mandala No. One
Rolland E. Proulx Copyright 2016

Babble On

It took me a while to post this one but hear it is.
It a new moon, new Chinese New Year.

Its In The Number

2016 adds up to a number nine in numerology.

A nine year is all about endings, completions. Time to get to get rid of the old. A good time to sort out, clean out stuff that may be cluttering up your life thereby making ready for the new to renew the energies in your life.

Not only is it a good time to rid yourself of material things you no longer need but you can also clean out old attitudes and belief systems you have outgrown, emotional stuff that is dragging you down and holding you back and blocking the way to a more fulfilling life.

A nine year is not a time for new beginnings. It is all about endings, tidying up loose ends and finishing projects that may have dragged on for some time. Whatever you begin in a nine year does not last because it is about endings.

This year is a good time to muse and contemplate new goals for the following year. Enjoy this period.

Not a good year for finances and the year of the Monkey confirms that. Money matters will be up and down all year. Can be very volatile. Hold onto what you do have. Not a year for speculation,

Affirmation of the month.

I will not lose my consciousness.

Aphorism of the month.

Go the extra mile and give a little more than is expected of you.

Recipe of the Month:

This is more of a tip than a recipe. For moist chicken and turkey squeeze in a washed orange or lemon into one of the cavities. The fowl will not only be moist but also scented.

Aphorism of the Month:
It’s not what is happening in your life that matters it’s how you react and respond to what is happening in your life that will determine the outcome.

BABBLE-ON:

What a month! Canada has a new government. Lots of razzle dazzle. Great. Time for a change and change is good. Change spells renewal, movement, action and life. EnThe world is in turmoil. Negative energies rearing their ugly heads. Make sure you know where your thoughts are at. Remember every action is preceded by a thought usually a series of thoughts. Ask yourself if you are a positive or negative force. It is wise thing to build rather than destroy.

Trendy Wendy Alert: What is with this “shaming, bullying, offended and culturally misappropriated  word doo-doo...Epidemic?

I think the above whining has been spawned by do-gooders. Mean well, lets all hold hands sops who in the name of good end up suppressing others. In the end we are left with a weak and frail people. It all spells mediocrity.

I love it when I hear someone is "offended" What exactly does that mean for them.  What offends one may not offend another. I think of it as a passive aggressive control tactic. (This type probably thinks they are NICE.

It is very important to not given in to this nonsense. I recall my art teacher in grade 10 telling us kids that there will always be people who like what we are and do and those who think the opposite. There will always be critics. The trick is to not be dissuaded by either camps. Get out there and do your thing.

Recipe of the Month:
Easy Way to Poach Fish
This recipe is simple and fast.
I love using a pan with lid for this recipe.
1 handful of spinach
1/2 yellow onion
tilapia
lemon or lime
fresh ground pepper
Add to the  pan a handful of spinach or chopped Swiss chard plus 1/2 yellow onion slivered and about 1 cup of cold water. Bring to a boil and then put on lower heat and let cook for about 10 minutes with the lid on. Then simply lay a filet or two of tilapia or any other mild fish on top of the spinach and onion and poach for about 5 minutes or until cooked.
You can serve this with rice or noodles.  If you have fresh lime or lemon to perfume the fish all the better.  Fresh ground pepper to your liking. One pan, no grease. I also poach salmon this way.

THE WIZARD OF WISE

SOUP AND WISDOM

News Views and Commentaries:

Autumn is here. What a wonderful season full of color and scents. Bluer skies and make sure you observe the light. What a joy.

I waited until Mercury (planet) was moving forward and out of its retrograde mode to do this posting.  Mercury goes retrograde four times a year for about 3 weeks and when it does you can expect communication static in all your dealings.  Computer problems are the norm or anything to do with electronics for that matter…not a good time to buy big time ticket items either.   Also not a good time to begin anything new that is major in your life or sign a contract.

Soup of the Month:

Miso Delight

This soup is so simple, economical and very tasty. If you want something fast to prepare yet nourishing and healthy this soup recipe is for you. Very economical.

Miso Paste (low sodium) available now in some grocery stores or health stores. I use the blonde miso.  This recipe is for one but obviously can be doubled.

1 big tbsp. of Miso paste

1 ½ cup of water (sometimes I do half water and half chicken broth)

1 green onion finely minced

Pinch of soya sauce low sodium

Pinch of cayenne pepper

Lemon wedge

Bring liquid to a boil (small pot). Dilute paste in a cup…add a little water and mix until smooth and there are no clumps. Add green onions then miso, soy, cayenne and let simmer for about 5 mins.  Pour into a soup bowl and spray lemon on top and voila it is ready to eat.

Aphorism of the Month:

Don’t be a miser. Let your enthusiasm shine.

(From: The Electrical Oracle Speaks)

Babble-On

Thought Responsibility

The power of thought is a force to be reckoned with on a daily basis. Thought is constantly happening and churning in our minds and what we put out is most often ignored. To do so is to demean one of your greatest gifts.

Thought is energy, a living energy. Thoughts become forms if they are nourished or fueled with more thoughts. Thoughts are things that can eventually become manifested in the physical.  Every man made thing  you see around you was once a thought…it was created by thought…first the thought then the action.  Therefore thoughts are very important  The quality of the thought is the thing.

What is critical is to become aware of your thoughts, what you are putting out there  constantly…is it constructive or destructive….positive or negative. Are you spewing poisonous garbage into your environment or sowing healthy thought patterns that will benefit you and others. For instance do you repeatedly think that you are a failure and when you fail at what you do, you may then assume that you are jinxed and not as lucky as others. Meanwhile you put yourself in that mindset by thinking that you were a failure.

If you can think that you are a failure you can think that you are a success. This will attract positive forces  to you  which will help create your success.  The opposite of course is you attract negative forces that reinforce your negative beliefs.

I like to think of being thought conscious as something that is fun, a challenge that keeps me on my toes, keeps me alert and conscious of where my thoughts are at.
To be continued next blog.
